Basic legislation includes laws governing a wide range of issues related to local government. In Canada, there is no comprehensive legislative regulation of local government at the federal level. As a consequence of the federal center’s limited role in establishing the general principles of local government organization, the latter is not included in the field of federal legal regulation.
